After the optimism of the Renaissance, neoclassical writers strived for structure, order, and balance. The cultural trend changed from the belief that people were naturally good to the belief that they were sinful. As a result, the writing of the neoclassical era favored a plain and modest style, choosing simple words and phrasings.

Imagine that you are in charge of directing cultural trends for the next 10 years. What would you change about the current culture in terms of literature? For example, how would you change the style, accessibility, and the ease with which you comprehend texts? What sorts of qualities would you like to see in literature or other forms of art? Consider how you would guide the creation of these cultural changes, including what role current events and the government would play and how the market would promote your vision. Also, think about other people’s agendas for cultural change and how yours differs.

Going back to basics

Directing cultural trends in times when every aspect of culture is invaded by social media is a challenge.Literature with a big L has been forgotten or it is being ignored. Readers today prefer simple sentences, undeveloped and predictable characters and settings they are familiarised with.

Style is originality and even though we are in the middle of a very modern and technological era, a personal style with features according to age and backround will sound attractive for different audiences. Expressions and ideas will be original if created from the development of characters who are unconventional; a rural teacher married to a businessman, a retired nuclear engineer who is too old to work but still has ideas, a millionaire who has tried everything but has never been a father.

For comprehension it is required that the language use does not fall in a complex categorization of things or descriptions that lead nowhere.Simple but not vulgar language with correct structures and a vocabulary that involves learning the meaning of words from context will probably result accessible and stimulating.

Going back to basics means making books trapping again, attractive and luring.People do not want to read, they want to be involved in very short activities to do something else.Being able to trap readers into sitting and reading in the bus , subway or in the peace of their homes is a cultural change. Drop the cell phones for some time, for God´s sake!

The organization of exhibitions with different activities could promote new material. There are fairs today to show the newest arrivals or inventions in technology. Why not using those spaces for engaging people into reading?Subjects such as everyday politics, financial affairs and social problems mixed with innovative characters could really be inviting.Festivals should include music and literature and cooking from different regions as well.Coming together is the excuse for the  promotion of new works.

Others might think of culture today as all the samles that make life easier and we make use of all the time.Creating gadgets is not creating art.Relationships have changed as we do not meet in person, we use social media. Creating or , recreating culture is what could be the goal of artists supported by investent from the government.Trying to attract people into contacting and communicating without the help of any device but oneself in person is the key to a cultural change.
