The effects of the Industrial Revolution on the U.S. was to move the country from a rural nation in an urban nation. New factories were being built and many employees were recent immigrants from western and northern Europe. The products were made using machines for many of the steps in manufacturing and therefore the products cost less at the retail. Instead of a cobbler making one or two pairs a day, the machines could turn out hundreds. Many of the inventions were in agriculture and as a result fewer people were needed as farm laborers. Farmers began selling their farms and moved to the city to work in the factories.
