The September Massacres were a series of mass killings that occurred in Paris and other French cities from September the 2nd to the 4th of 1792 during that country's revolution.

Approximately 1000 prisoners from the overthrown royal regime were killed during those days. However, many of the killed prisoners were, in fact, non-political prisoners. It is understood that action was called upon by politician Jean-Paul Marat.

This action was a massive blow to the Royal Regime of Louis XVI, as the killings were ordered as a preventive action for a potential counter-revolt by remaining factions of the regime.
