The formation of fossils is associated with a series of biological and geological events beginning with the death of an organism. This is followed by a series of events, such as necrolysis, disarticulation, transport and burial of the remains, until the final occurrence of the physicochemical processes that transform sediments into rock and fossilize the organisms deposited therein. The area of paleontology that deals with unraveling all the processes mentioned above is taphonomy.
