A 0.14-kg baseball is moving at 41 m/s. A 0.058-kg tennis ball is moving at 67 m/s. Which of the two balls has higher kinetic energy?
A. The tennis ball has more kinetic energy.
B. The baseball has more kinetic energy.
C. They have the same kinetic energy.
D. It is impossible to say because their KE changes during time.

Answer:

A. The tennis ball has more kinetic energy.

Explanation:

kinetic energy is defined as

[tex]K = \frac{1}{2}mv^2[/tex]

now we know for baseball we have

m = 0.14 kg

v = 41 m/s

[tex]K_1 = \frac{1}{2}(0.14)(41^2)[/tex]

[tex]K_1 = 117.67 J[/tex]

Similarly for tennis ball we have

m = 0.058 kg

v = 67 m/s

[tex]K_2 = \frac{1}{2}(0.058)(67^2)[/tex]

[tex]K_2 = 130.18 J[/tex]

So tennis ball will have more kinetic energy then baseball
