Sam is investigating the factors that affect photosynthesis. She keeps some plants in the dark for 24 - 48 hours. They receive no light. What does this remove from the plants?

Respuesta :

Answer:

In photosynthesis, sunlight is necessary for it allows the plant to synthesize food from the CO2 and water. Without the light, it cannot carry out photosynthesis and create the food to feed itself.

Oseni

By keeping some plants in the dark, Sam is removing the ability of the plant to capture light for photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis is a process whereby green plants capture light energy for the synthesis of carbohydrates using inorganic raw materials such as water and carbon dioxide.

The process of photosynthesis takes place in 2 major steps

  1. Light-dependent reaction
  2. Light-independent reaction

During light-dependent reaction, energy from light excites chlorophyll molecules and cause an electron to be displaced. The electron in the chlorophyll is replaced by the electron in water, leading to the cleavage of the bond between H and O and the evolution of O2. ATP and NADPH are produced and these are utilized in the light-independent reaction.

In the light-independent reaction, the molecules synthesized from the light-dependent reaction are used to fix carbon dioxide in a series of reactions resulting in the formation of carbohydrates.

Hence, keeping some plants in the dark will alt the light-dependent reaction and the entire photosynthesis process at large.
