Telling a story can enhance understanding and can be more persuasive than facts. For instance, if you were to simply give a statistic on the matter, it can be entirely factual but that is a lot harder to convey your point than a story. In leadership, this is especially true. Saying that it is proven that there needs to sterness in the chain of command from higher-ups, is not very convincing. Telling a story about how sterness  changed the lives of people or how it taught people an important lesson is very effective. Example: A incoming cadet in the military was struggling with following instructions from his officer. The officer then pulled the cadet aside and was very stern with him and let him know the logistic consequences of not following direct instructions from leadership.
