When writing a narrative essay with descriptive language, be sure to include adjectives (describing words, e.g. fluffy, soft, blue), similes (like or as, e.g. 'she was as sweet as candy'), metaphors (describing something in a way that isn't actually true, e.g. 'all the world's a stage'). I like using personification (giving a non-human object human qualities, e.g. 'the sun smiled as I walked home') but depending on what you are writing, personification might not fit well with your story. You can also use idioms (a group of words whose meaning is not dependant on the individual words e.g. 'it's raining cats and dogs).
