Gerald takes his family out to dinner. Garrett orders a pepperoni and mushroom pizza and a 16 oz drink. Gerald and his wife, Maggie, each order a chicken wrap. When the bill comes Maggie says she has a 10% off coupon. The waiter reminds them there is a 7% tax. Gerald decides to leave a 20% tip on the amount before coupons and taxes. What is the total cost including tax and tip?​

Well, without any prices, I can’t give you a number. And someone else may have a simpler way to do this.

But we’ll call the original bill x.

After the 10% off coupon, the bill is 0.9x
Adding tax = 0.07(0.9x) + 0.9x
Adding a tip = 0.20[0.07(0.9x) + 0.9x)]
