Free weights are able to be used for anything and they don't cost much. Machine weights have to be adjusted to you body dimensions and they allow your joints to move in their natural paths. Most of all you should choose the best weight type that you are comfortable using and it can be worked in during your daily routine. 

For this case, what you must take into account are your goals in terms of physical activity.

For example:

free weights: can be used by any person, and serve to fulfill a limited amount of strength exercises.

machine weights: They can be used by anyone, but also, they have factors to consider. Among the factors we have the comfort, the adjustment of the weight and the adjustment of the machine for each type of body.

On the other hand, another factor that you must take into account is the economic one. It is more expensive machine weights than free weights, although the first one also offers more benefits, such as the ones mentioned above.
