Jason is pulling a box across the room. He is pulling with a force of 27 newtons and his arm is making a 49 angle with the horizontal, what is the horizontal component of the force he is pulling with?

i think this makes more sense if you draw a diagram

so basically, as we are working out the horizontal component, decide if you need to use sin or cos.

as the side is next to the angle, you would use cosine.

thus, your answer would be 27cos49

(the vertical component would be 27sin49)
