The new urban culture influenced the way women's life changed in the 1920's. Young women were allowed to wear shorter skirts, shorter hair, more jewelry, and more makeup that it was accepted before. They also smoked cigarettes, drank alcohol, and visited nightclubs. Many other women were adopting new roles at work, and more started working outside their homes. A lot of women started working as teachers, some became nurses, secretaries, or salesclerk.
