One major achievement of the civil rights movement during the 1950s was the end of institutionalized racism in education. This came thanks to the ruling of the Supreme Court in the case Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. In this case, the Supreme Court argued that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. The ruling paved the way for integration and was a major victory of the civil rights movement.
