If Johnny wants to learn about the way people use space to communicate, then he should study proxemics. It is the study of human usage of space and the effect of the population density to behavior, social interaction and communication. This was introduced by Edward Hall as he was so interested in understanding how does space affect communication of humans. There are four types of spaces that is being described in this body of knowledge. These are social space ( 4 -12 ft away from someone) , public space( 12 - 25 feet away) , personal space (1-4 ft away) and intimate space (less than a foot).
