A threat to the biodiversity of my own environment is to the orcas or killer whales in southern BC in which only a total of about 80-90 individuals still exist and noise from freighters in the Strait of Georgia bothers them and if the Kinder Morgan pipeline goes through then tanker traffic plying their environment will increase 7 fold in which there will be a risk of a spill that could destroy them altogether. Also, our pine forests in BC are threatened by the pine beetle as a consequence of global warming since they do  not get killed off as our winters do not get cold enough for long enough so they have run rampant eating and killing our pine trees by the forest. Another ocean species is the salmon which is threatened by overfishing and the building of hydroelectric dams and runs like the sockeye have been much lower than expected in recent years, On the Canadian east coast the Atlantic Cod has been decimated nearly to the point of extinction by overfishing and very poor management by the Canadian Dept of Fisheries and Oceans. A threat to an abundant species was the annihilation of most of the buffalo on our Canadian Great Plains by overhunting some of it deliberate to destroy the livelihood of the First Nations and Metis peoples.
