Describe to your classmates the steps of mitosis that you identified. Explain how you were able to tell one stage from another stage. Respond to your classmates observations.

Answer:

Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase

Explanation:

Mitosis is the process that a cell undergoes when it has gotten too large to sustain itself, and therefore it will divide into two smaller cells. This can also happen in larger multicellular organisms, when cells in a certain area need to be replaced, mitosis will occur there often. There are different stages in mitosis, named prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. There are other phases named interphase (which is known as the rest phase and occurs before mitosis) and cytokinesis (which is the separation of the cytoplasm into the two daughter cells).

Prophase is where the chormosomes are now visible and can be observed.

Metaphase is where the chomosomes then align themselves on the metaphase plate, which is essentially the middle of the cell.

Anaphase is where the chomosomes are now being pulled apart and start moving to opposite ends of the cell.

Telophase is where the chomosomes have now separated and a cellular membrane is starting to form to then separate into two cells.
