the occipital bone is a reference that it's the posterior side, while the mandibule indicates it's anterior.

Neck is a flexible column, which consists of C1 to C7 vertebrae. It is the highly specialised part of the backbone, which performs several role in the body. The atlas, axis, pedicles, spinous process, and facet joints are some of the parts of neck vertebrae.
