I believe the best way to describe |-2| is 'the distance between A and C'.
When a number is in between two lines like this ( |-2| ), it means to find the absolute value of that number. Most people think the absolute value means it's the opposite of the number, but the absolute value is really the distance from 0. So the absolute value of 7 would be 7, because 7 is the distance the number is from 0. So |-2| would be described as the distance form Point A to Point C because its distance is two numbers away from 0.
