In the story “The Masque of the Red Death”, a few points are outlined from the novel thus providing the details that supports the Prince´s thinking that he can escape the plague.

1. During the surge of the plague red death, while a greater part of the populated was ravaged and decimated, Prince Prospero summoned from among  his courtiers, hale and light-hearted friends that would make his period of  “deep seclusion” behind the castellated walls  of one of his chosen castles,  gay and memorable.  As the last courtier entered this castle, the iron gates were permanently welded and bolted with the use of furnaces and hammers, thus preventing anyone from entering or leaving its walls.

2. The Prince made sure that the abbey was amply provisioned and that there was no need for making supplies of provisions.

3. With these precautions, the revelers expected to bid defiance to contagion.  By this, they reasoned to be duly protected from any form of contact from the plague.

4. Since the Prince had made sure that all was provided, as it was considered a waste of time to grieve, or think, for the external world could take care of itself.  They believed to have all the luxury, food and appliance of pleasure would be enough to be relieved of the sentiments of despair and frenzy.
