What is Hersey and Chase's experiment?
- They work on the bacteriophages (virus that infects bacteria).
- They attached bacteriophages (that have a radioactive DNA) to the bacteria.
- The genetic material of bacteriophages will get incorporated in bacterial genome and when the latter undergo into replication, the bacteriophage's genetic material will also get replicated.
- And when the bacterial cell is tested, it shows that the radioactive DNA of bacteriophage is also present.
- So, from this experiment it was proved that DNA is the genetic material.
