Use the FOIL Method
(First-Outer-Inner-Last)

Start with the first variable in each parenthese.
(The x and 3x are first.)
They make:
[tex]3 {x}^{2} [/tex]
Then, do the outer variables. (x and -5)
They make:
[tex] - 5x[/tex]
Next, the inner terms. (1 and 3x)
They make:
[tex]3x[/tex]
Finally, the last terms. (1 and -5)
They make:
[tex] - 5[/tex]
To get your answer, add them together.
[tex]3 {x}^{2} - 5x + 3x - 5[/tex]
Add like terms together for the final answer.
[tex]3 {x}^{2} - 2x - 5[/tex]
That's your final answer!
