After 200 CE, the Roman Empire faced many serious problems.

➡️Civil war erupted in 235 and in 249. The Goths plundered far and wide from c 250-267, while a major Frankish incursion into Gaul occurred c 257. ✔️

➡️Parthia proved to be a dangerous foe during the reign of Macrinus c 218, and Sassanid Persia was much worse.✔️

➡️The Persians mauled the armies of Alexander Severus and Gordian III in 233 and 244 respectively, and demolished the Roman army at Barbalissos (252) and again at Edesa (260).✔️

➡️Sassanid forces mortally wounded Gordian III in 244 and captured Valerian in 260. They also plundered Syria and other Roman territory in the East. ✔️

➡️After the capture of Valerian, usurpation and civil war intensified.✔️

➡️Much of the western empire, and the East, under Palmyra, broke away during the time of Gallienus's sole rule--260-268.✔️

➡️Not until the reign of Aurelian (270-275) was the Empire reunited.✔️

➡️As if military and political trouble wasn't bad enough, the Empire was also beset by a terrible plague from c 251-266. Its money also lost value.
