The American Curl is a breed of cate that has curly ears. The allele for curly ears is dominant. Suppose a male cat with the heterozygous genotype is bred to a female cat with the homozygous recessive genotype. Predict the ratio of kittens that will have the phenotype for curly ears. In your answer:

a. Write the genotypes for both parents; draw a Punnet Square that shows a cross between the 2 cats

b. Write the phenotypic ratio of the offspring. If the cross produces six kittens, predict how many of them will have the curly ear phenotype

Respuesta :

Cc * cc = Cc, Cc, cc, cc

Cc : 50%       cc: 50%

Three kittens will have the genotype for curly ears and three won't have the genotype for it.

If we cross two Rr parents, we will have a phenotypic ratio of 3:1. Three of the kitten will have curly ears.

What is heter-ozygous ?

The term heter-ozygous implies that the parents have two different  alleles for the same gene. One of the allele is dominant while the other is reccessive. Let the pair be Rr. R is for the dominant curly ears and r is for the reccesive gene.

Now if we cross two Rr parents, we will have a phenotypic ratio of 3:1. Three of the kitten will have curly ears.
