Surveillance cameras have both benefits and downsides.
The benefits are: They deter crimes, can capture video evidence of crimes, help law enforcement officials in the capture of a suspect by showing where they went, etc, etc.
The downsides are: decreased personal security, they're easy to vandalize, criminals could even angle the camera in a different direction.
