While this was the case in the past, in modern times there's not an obstacle for the African Americans to prosper in their lives, and there's not a single connection in the present with the slavery in the past. Nowadays, the African Americans, as all other ethnic and racial groups in America have the same opportunities in life, on occasions even better. We can see this in the scholarships, where the majority of the scholarships for sports are given to African American children. There's no discrimination on racial basis (in general of course, as there always will be a small minority that is discriminatory), the education is available for everyone. Everything is dependent on the individual and what choices that individual makes in its life. The biggest problem actually for the difference in wealth and the progress of the African American children is that the big majority of them have grown into a single parent household, which has very negative effects on the development of the children.
