During the Scientific Revolution, lot of new scientific discoveries came out and reached the public, and that process continued and still does. The Church was not happy about it at all, and it gave its best to stop the process, but it was not able to luckily. As more and more scientific discoveries were coming out in the open, the Church was losing more and more of its power, especially the political power it had. The reason for this was that lot of the new scientific discoveries were directly disproving what the Church has been telling to the people for centuries, so it was rapidly losing its credibility, leading to a rapid demise in its overall power, and being totally pushed away from the political scene in the time to come.
