The volcanoes that are comprised of basaltic magma have low silica content. Due to this, they have low viscosity and the magma can easily flow without any difficulty. When these basaltic volcanoes undergoes eruptions, it allows the magma to flow more or less like a fluid. But these magma when comes in contact with water inside the volcano before eruptions, it then turns into more violent and explosive in nature.

The rocks that are formed from this basaltic eruptions are very dark in color and have a low silica content in them.
