In Book III, Telemachus, Odysseus' son, had went on a journey to try to find his father along with several men and Minerva/ Athena in disguise. When they had reached the place of Nestor at Pylos, they were invited to join in their feast. At this, Thrasymedes gave the wine cup to Athena in disguise as Mentor, telling her that "he is younger than you are, and is much of an age with myself, so I will give you the precedence".

Thus, Minerva/ Athena was given the wine cup first because of her old age appearance as compared to the others.
