She is stuck in an indecisive state which tears her apart and start sympathizing the past by recalling some of the happy family moments. But again, she remembers how miserable life her mother lead. On the docks in Dublin, Frank and Eveline are waiting to get on the ship, the whistle blows, but Eveline stays paralyzed, so although it seemed that she took the final step towards a new life, her indecisiveness won and fear of unknown froze her.
