I'm home!" Earl shouted as he walked in the door. His wife Gail came bounding down the stairs. She hadn't seen him since he had left to go on his silly fishing trip two weeks ago. "I missed you, Husband. Did you catch anything?" Gail reluctantly asked, knowing that Earl was not a very good fisherman. Earl scratched his head and responded, "You're not going to believe what I'm bringing home." Earl unzipped a cooler and pulled out several perfectly filleted salmon steaks. "Wow, Earl, I didn't know that you could fillet a fish like that." Earl looked around the room a little bit and scratched his head, "Uh, yeah, Jeff taught me how." Gail looked at him suspiciously. "Well, let me help you unpack." As Gail was helping Earl unpack his truck, she found a receipt from the grocery store. It was dated from that morning. What she saw was both disappointing and unsurprising.

What did Gail find on the receipt? The receipt was for store-bought Salmon. I know this because it says

Why was Gail disappointed and unsurprised with what she saw?

Respuesta :

At the beginning of the story, it states that “Earl was not a very good fisherman.” When he brought back perfectly filleted salmon steaks, it was too good to be true. Earl also acted strangely when Gail stated that she didn’t know he could fillet a fish like that. The receipt was proof that Earl didn’t catch any fish and he lied to his wife. He instead bought it from the grocery store. Gail was disappointed because her husband lied to her and he couldn’t make and honest living of fishing. She was also unsurprised because he never caught anything and if he would it wouldn’t be perfectly fillet salmon.
Hope that helped!!

Gail found the receipt for the purchase of the fatted salmon and she was disappointed because she thought her husband had learned how to fish and slice the fish, but she wasn't surprised because she knew he wasn't a good fisherman.

We can see that the receipt was for the purchase of silver salmon because:

  • At the beginning of the text, we see Gail claiming that her husband was not a good fisherman.
  • So it would be impossible for a bad fisherman to get so much salmon filet and sliced professionally.
  • She is suspicious when her husband explains how he learned to cut salmon.
  • The receipt is proof that the sliced salmon was purchased.

Although she is suspicious, she is hopeful that her husband has learned how to fish and how to slice fish, so she is disappointed to see the receipt, but she is not surprised.
