A lot of historians are unsure but the main theory is that the people were dissatisfied with years of poor harvest, old debt, and also high bread prices, this caused dissatisfaction with the French Monarchy

The reason to the French Revolution was because the third estate wasn’t happy, they lived under bad conditions and had to pay really high taxes as there was barely any money because of it being used for war.
There was also a problem with food, there wasn’t growing enough food during that time which ended up with many starving.
During votings the third different estates would have one spokesperson each, the two higher estates had spokesmen representing 200 each, but the third had to represent 600 people which always ended with them loosing. As there was 2 against 1.
The estate higher than them could basically control everything over them but they could also force the third estate to pay them taxes, not only the king
