The jury rules the final verdict in a criminal or civil trial. This is based off evidence presented in the case. The jury decides whether or not the defendant is guilty or a crime in a criminal case. In a civil case, they also decide the outcome, but in a different mannerism. In civil cases, the jury has to decide whether or not the plaintiff should be paid fines (in civil cases, the plaintiff sues the defendant in order to receive compensation for injuries or damages to property.
