It was made because to be sung at camp meetings, during revivals of religion, and on other thing.  

People who would have read or studied this item at the time it was created were Christian or religious people who thought  people can be saved through service to God.

It is worth studying today because: people who still believe in God could see that in the past they also believed in him.
