NEED HELP ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The importance of Vietnam and how it changed the Cold War.

Respuesta :

Answer:

At first, the Vietnam War exacerbated the hostile relationship between the communist and the capitalist blocs as the Soviet Union and China helped the communist North Vietnam while the US helped the anti-communist South Vietnam respectively. The war became the most dangerous and hostile time in the Cold War period in the beginning.

However, The Vietnam War later resulted in great casualties in the US and the US people started their anti-war movement. As a result, President Nixon signed an armistice in 1973 in which America gradually changed her policy from containment to non-intervention which helped eased the cold war tension at the end. Then, there was a period of Detente (1968–79) after the war which encouraged economic and political cooperation between the two blocs. Also, both the US and the USSR wished to cut military expenditures and further harmonised their relationship a little bit. Thus, the Vietnam War impacting the US changed policy helped mitigate the tension in the “Cold War” and between the Soviet-American relationship to some extent.
