What is a Stanza?

This refers to the group of lines that make up a metrical foot in a poem or a verse.

Here, we can see that in the opening stanza of the song, the singer Melissa Etheridge says she has been so still and afraid of crumbling which shows that her state of mind is one of uncertainty.

Furthermore, the meaning of the given lines is that she wants to evaluate her life now, away from the youthful exuberance and ponder her life and face some uncomfortable truths.
