Here are a few ways that Congress represents the American people:
1. Members of Congress can present new laws or policies to help with certain issues that citizens ask for help with. By sending letters to your representatives, you can help them do what you and your community want, because they are a representative of you.
2. If a national law is set in place by another member of Congress from another area, your representative can approve of this or not based on what your community wants. You can send them letters based on certain issues that you do not want to put in effect nationally and they will vote against that issue.
