due to an increase of farming and the booming of cotton prices, farmers needed more workers, slaves were a one time purchase that was cheap and they could work for however long you wanted them to. they also could make children and sadly many were forced to create children just so that they could be made into slave workers

this was due to the columbian exchange which had started trade routes which brought new plants, animals, items and such but since their were new crops they would farm them but at first they used native americans as slaves but the majority had died from columbian diseases so they had brought the african american slave trade for farming/plantations
