Lavoisier organized a list of the known elements of his day as four categories. Newlands was the first to organize the elements and show that properties repeated in a periodic way. Mendeleev and Meyer proposed periodic tables showing a relationship between atomic mass and elemental properties. Moseley organized the elements by atomic number instead of atomic mass.

The long or the modern form of the periodic table is based on the modern periodic law. The arrangement of elements in the table is done in the order of increasing atomic numbers. The present form of the periodic table is known as the modern periodic table. It comprises 7 horizontal rows and 18 vertical columns.  

Different scientists contributed distinctly in the development of the modern periodic table. The contributions are as follows:  

• The list of the known elements was organized in the form of four categories by Lavoisier.  

• The first one to organize the elements and demonstrate that properties repeated in a periodic manner was Newlands.  

Meyer and Mendeleev suggested periodic tables demonstrating an association between atomic mass and elemental properties.  

• The organization of the element by atomic number in place of atomic mass was done by Moseley.  

Thus, different scientists contributed in the development of the modern periodic table.
