Any Order, Resolution, or Vote in the Senate or House of Representatives needs to be presented to the President before taking effect. If the President disagrees or objects to a bill or resolution, he can veto it by sending it back to Congress along with a document explaining the reasons for his objections, this is know as direct veto. The bill can also not become a law if the President withholds signing the bill withing 10 days and Congress adjourns during that period. The only way to overwrite a Presidential veto is when a majority of two-thirds of both the House and Senate vote against the veto.
