This quote means that the person who said it would only agree to what they felt was right, they did what they wanted irregardless of what people would say. It is implying that the person was brave and courageous and that they normally don’t agree with what majority of the people have to say and that could be because their opinions are simply, standards or generic/popularized or controversial, things like that.
People in society can look at this quote as a form of Inspiration. They can feel empowered, independent and entitled (in a good way).By applying this in society, people can do things without having to face the anxiety thus more innovation.
