The significance of the Battle of Saratoga can be seen in the fact that it was finally won by the American settlers, raising their self-confidence, and persuaded the French to assist the Americans. This battle was fought in two parts. The first battle took place on 19th September 1777 and the second battle took place on 7th October 1777. In the first battle the British force under the leadership of John Burgoyne, British General, won the fight. However, in the second battle, the Patriots under the leadership of Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold, American Generals, defeated the British force. Therefore, this battle was a turning point in the history of the United States.
