The primary function of estrogens in women is development of female sexual characteristics during puberty. (Breasts, regulation of the menstrual cycle etc.) In males estrogen helps in maturation of the sperm and maintenance of a healthy libido.
Estrogen is the female hormone made mainly in the ovaries. The ovary is the female sex gland and they produce eggs as well as estrogen. Estrogen makes a girl develop her sexual organs and also controls her monthly menstrual cycle.
