One day he wanders into the mountains to go hunting, meets and drinks with English explorer Henry Hudson’s legendary crew, and falls into a deep sleep. He awakens twenty years later and returns to his village to discover that everything has changed. The disturbing news of the dislocation is offset by the discovery that his wife is dead. Rip Van Winkle is a tale by Washington Irving that surround Rip, who was of Dutch and American origin and mysteriously fell asleep for twenty years after consuming liquor.

What happened to Rip?

Rip was asleep and gone for twenty years and when he returned to his village seemed a great change for him. A lot had changed in twenty years and then he learns the truth that his wife is dead and his children are all grown up.

He is not recognized by any but only by Peter Vanderdonk who is the oldest man in the village. After some time Rip's daughter, Judith accepts him as her father and asks him to stay with her husband and child.

Rip could not believe that twenty years had passed and his life had changed so drastically. He relives the old stories to the villagers to rekindle the old traditions and reconnections.
