the 5 means you multiply 4x4 ( 5 times ) and the 7 means you multiply 8x8 ( 7 times )
for the first one, you take 4 and times itself 5 times. (the tiny number above the 4, which is the 5, is called an exponent) Like this 4*4*4*4*4= 1,024

and for the second one, you take 8 and times itself 7 times. Which the 7 is the exponent and 8 is just a normal number. Now you do 8*8*8*8*8*8*8 which equals 2,097, 152.

This isn’t apart of your question, but i think it will help you understand more. Say you had 2 with and exponent of 3. You would do 2*2*2. Your multiplying 2, 3 times. Now i know you might want to do 2*3=6. but that’s not how you do it. You do it like this:

2*2= 4 now you take that 4 and multiply that by 2. Which is 8. So 2 with an exponent of 3 is 8. Hope this helps.

Now try this on your own:

6 with and exponent of 2.

(6 is in the same place as the 8 or the 4 above, and the 2 is in the same place as the 5 and the 7.)

You don’t have to but if you want more help just message me! Hope you have a wonderful day, and get a good grade
