Potential energy is a relative measure of energy. By referring to the ground as the "zero point" we can calculate its potential energy by

[tex]E_p=mgh = 0.147\text{ kg}\cdot9.82\text{m/s}^2\cdot2\text{ m} \approx 2.88 \text {J }[/tex].

Gravitational PE  =  (mass) (gravity) (height) .

                         = (0.147 kg) (9.8 m/s²) (2 m)

                         =    2.88 joules .

Once you drop it, though, it starts losing potential energy.
