Water waves will travel at a constant speed in a ripple tank when generated at different frequencies if the depth of the water is constant at all points. If the frequency increases then the wavelength will decrease portion, the particles of the water move in a direction at right angles to the direction the wave is traveling. However, in the sound wave, it is caused by a echo rebounding off the walls and solid surface areas to travel around in order to make a consistent movement created by the source of the sound, the particles in the material the sound is travelling through move back and forth along the same direction that the sound is travelling. A sound wave is a longitudinal wave and a water wave is a transverse wave.
