Xanadu was a palace owned by the Mongol ruler Kubla Khan, who lived from 1215 to 1294. In the poem "Kubla Khan", Coleridge describes the palace in a vivid manner, exclaiming about its paradisiac beauty. A sacred river ran through the grounds and into the ocean; even though it was sunny outside, there were icy caves; and the palace's forests were filled with fragrant trees, sunny meadows, and little streams.

The way Coleridge describes those images makes me wish I could be there. It would be wonderful to be at such a magnificent place. I can imagine how peaceful it would be to walk among the trees, all the while listening to birds singing, and finally sit by one of the streams, with my feet in the water. I can picture soft grass covering the ground, and a light breeze gently brushing the leaves.
