Southern culture was agricultural based, while the north relied more on factories and production of materials for their income. Therefore, when it come to slavery, the south had more reason to want to keep their enslaved people that they used to do agricultural labor. The majority of the north viewed their black peers as humans and wanted to give them civil rights. In the end, it came down to the south wanting to keep their slaves as means of needed labor, while the north wanted them to be treated as people and earn wages for the work they did.
