I'm just looking for someone to check my answers on this and correct me if I'm wrong :)
This is the question:
You have three elements, A, B, and C, with the following electronegativity values:
A = 0.9
B = 3.0
C = 3.5
You react the elements to form the substances AB, AC, and BC. Answer the following questions:
What type of substance is AB? What types of bonds are present? Explain your answer.
What type of substance is AC? What types of bonds are present? Explain your answer.
What type of substance is BC? What types of bonds are present? Explain your answer.
If any of the substances are ionic compounds, which element is the cation and which is the anion? Explain your answer.
And these are my answers:
AB is a compound. It'd be an ionic compound because the electronegativity is different in each.
AC is a compound. It'd be an ionic compound because the electronegativity is different in each.
BC is a compound, but the bond between them is covalent.
AB is an ionic compound. A is the cation and B is the anion because the element with lower electronegativity is the cation and the element with the higher electronegativity is the anion.
