The most ethical action is to notify a referee or coach so they can take action and remove the hazard. Because it is a competition and he really wants to win, the player might be tempted to not tell anyone and let the opposing team be at a disadvantage. I would tell a referee right away. Yes, your opponents would have been at a disadvantage if you didn't tell, but that is not how you win a game. If you have to cheat to win a game, then you might as well consider yourself the loser. The other team gave their all and didn't cheat, so why should you.
